I had a convo with my bro today and it went like this:
Me - You still have to go to that museum today?
Bro - Yea, it's for extra credit
Me - Oh what kind of museum is it?
Bro - A historical one
Me - .................ok, so what kind of museum is it?

haha, just thought that was funny.

ANYWAY, lol, I'm a little late on this one. Here's the new remix album by Miss Mary that leaked on Wednesday.

Another Notch on the Belt

Concert Going Career consists of the following show's

1)Mos Def/Talib Kweli/K'naan/Jean Grey
2)Little Brother/Dilated People/
3)WuTang
4)Kanye West/N.E.R.D./Lupe Fiasco
5)Erykah Badu/Roots
6)De La Soul
7)Common
8)Roots/Gym Class Heroes
9)Q-tip/Cool Kids/Pacific Division/The Knux

Only names I'm missing are Jay-Z, Biggie, and 2Pac and I'd be set for life! haha.

The last one is the most recent one. And man the flyer only said that Q-Tip and the Cool Kids were gonna be there. So you have to believe me when I say I was thourghly surprised once the ever dope "ima f.a.t. boy, ima f.a.t. boy" hook started and the beat dropped and BAM! Out came Pacific Division. The crowd didn't know who they were and same goes for The Knux too. But they both came out and laid it down, amid little crowd involvement and REALLY Terrible sound. (smh at Marquee Theater)........on a side note, Big ups to 2dopeboyz for putting me on (i puttttt onnnnn) to Pac Div and The Knux.

Then the Cool Kids came out and did their thing. Although the mostly High School aged kids enjoyed this part of the show the most, it was only "cool" for me. Till they did the Black Mags song which is hella old but they were joined by the previous 2 groups on stage. So it made it dope.

When Q-Tip finally came on stage......he had a surprise guest with him (well, it was a surprise to me lol)...DJ Scratch! lol, damn that guy can DJ. His little 15 minute solo he had was niceeeeee!

But anyways....Q gets up there, realizes that the sound quality is horrendous (smh again) and stops his set for like 15 minutes until they finally got everything right. Which I'm happy he did cus it made his show even better. It was reaaaaal cool seeing a legend in the game still get hyped and going crazy on stage, he fed of the crowd (now mixed, old and young) and reciprocally we fed off of him. He even came down off the stage and started to interact with the fans by having someone finish a line mid song.

Case in point - During the song Check The Rhime he said:

[Q]Back in the days on the boulevard of Linden
We used to kick routines and presence was fittin
It was I, The Abstract
[Q doing Ps part] And me the five footer
And then put the mic in front of my face to finish it out with "I gots the mad styles so step off the Frankfooter"....but no. What did I do. I froze, completely blanked. Thank God it wasnt just directed at me, but the mic right there in my face made it seem like it was just me and Q *no homo* lol. To say the least I was embarressed and I know Q was disappointed, cus I was singing along with him the whole time! aaaahhhhhh, I'm sorry Q....Forgive me?

Ya'll already know though that when he asked to see all the bloggers hands go up....I made myself known. iRep TofaAA.

The show was real dope over all specially with 2K Sports giving away free shirts and what not (btw, smashed some kid in 2k9 with Kobe B and the Lake Show), we sat stood dead center in the front row....wouldn't want it anywhere else. Jk, that's a lie. I would love to be able to take a camera in there and snap away/record video for you guys....but alas, I do not yet have the credentials of a HipHopBlogger yet. In due time....In due time indeed.

As for concerts though....I think Im gonna take a little break for now, only really worth show coming up is the Wu-Tang one. And as dope as they were when I saw them earlier this year.....not really sure if I wanna see them again anytime soon lol *Jando knows what I mean*

Well, Till next time......

Forgive me

I know it's been 10 days without a post. It's not like I've been trying to ignore your desperate calls for new posts, I've just been hexie busy with con me trabajo y escuela. Every time I think I have a little break, it turns out being just a mirage lol.

Anywaysss, I just had to jump on and say somethings for za fans, the followers of zis here blogggggg!

1) Lil Wayne's new mixtape (Dedication 3) came out the other day. As ya'll know, my love of his commercial music is minimal at best. Actually, its safe to say that it is probably at Zero.

His mixtapes on the other hand....I can listen to, atleast all but this one, which was "meh..." at best. Auto-Tune = OVERRATED! (you too Kanye). To be fair though, there were some songs that were dope, and weirdly enough, the best verse on the whole tape goes too....*drum roll*....Drake on the song "Stuntin". Yes, that Canadian Teen Star turned surprisingly dope rapper lol.

Then again Wayne did say this tape was to showcase his YoungMoney Crew more than to actually spit dope stuff.....sadly.

2)The Office is really starting to go through a lot of changes. Michael breakin up with Holly, Dwight trying to screw up the wedding between Andy Bernard and Angela, Oscar possible trying to get at Andy?? (lol), Kelly and the Temp gettin back together....ahhhh. I love this show.

3) SouljaBoyTellEm = the one greatest disgrace to his generation since probably......I dont even know. Anyone who praises slave masters should never be talked about again. And yet I am talking about him right here........Damn.

He won.

4) The new Suns = GREAT!!!

Hopefully this translates to some more emotion injected into them....get those W's! And btw, Shaq = a Beast.

5)I recently got an interview done by the people at Culture VI, interviewing a real dope underground artist. Masta Ace (a la Juice Crew, eMC). Most of yall dont know who he is. Matter of fact, 99% of anyone who reads this doesn't know who he is. But for all of you purists.....this is a real good interview. Enjoy.

Interview With Masta Ace - Culture VI

6) These guys over at The Real always produce pretty funny videos....but this one really takes the cake.

A not so silent Revolution - Yes We Can

Diversity at it's finest

Just minutes after I posted my last one. I am back.

From the very depths of society to the highest office in the land.

380+ years in the making and finally in the year 2008 on the 4th day of the month of November, This great country of America voted in the 44th president, the 1st of African American descent.

It was an incredible campaign that also saw a women get further than any other women has reached in a Presidential race.

It was the most competitive and most heated contest in my short political memory. Yet, after all ballots were cast and the people of America spoke, the true voice of the people was heard; a voice screaming for a change on many levels.

It's pretty hard to put feelings into words but alot of respect for John McCain and his campaign for an incredible race. Conceding gracefully with a well spoken exit speech reinforcing his alliegence to the country and his unwavering support for the now President-Elect Barack Obama.

And now Barack Obama ends his journey to the world's most notable and most scrutinized office exactly the way he started it back in 2004 during the Democratic National Convention for John Kerry - with an incredible speech.

Let's move forward together, unified, into the uncertain future and tackle the problems that we are all having to deal with in recent years.

Congratulations America.

You did good.

Our First Time

Although it seems heaven sent//We ain't ready, to have a black president - Tupac

If only he knew how ready we really were.

I'm going off my blog from earlier.

By Our I mean our great nation called the United States of America.

All the trials and turbulation this country has been through, all of the conflict that many people were a part of, all of the questions of equality for all as stated in the Constitution, are about to come to the highest point in America's history. We are about to break a barrier that has been set above this nation's head for so long, impregnable by any who tried.

Until Now.

I do not want to get ahead of myself right now since there is still time and electorates left, but the way it looks like, we...WE are going to win this thing.

The first Black President is such a great accomplishment....beyond any words. But the path taken to reach this golden goal should also be noted as amazing. Obama brought together people of many walks of life, young and old, black, brown, white, and asian people, blue and white collar people....any type of demographic you can think off, AND even the crossing of party lines. Obama's campaign brought them together; unification of this country

My cousin, who before his untimely death, was the biggest Obama supporter of anyone I knew. The fact that he is not here with us to witness history being made is the only damper on the situation that is seriously incredible.

What do I feel right now. With the Democrats up 207 to the Republicans 135 in the race to 270 electorates, I am feeling a subduded sense of excitement. It's weird how I was so confident and yet so nervous. I can't explain it and I can at the same time haha. (stomach begins to flutter).

My first time.

Obama, Obama, Obama.....

At about 8:15 am AZ time, I stood at the little table and voted for the next president of the United States and damn did it feel good!

Me and my dad went and stood in line for about an hour and a half; We didn't do the early balloting because I wanted to experience the whole voting atmosphere (read: it was my first time!) and my dad didn't just so he could come with me lol.

Anyways, as I got the ballot I got a sense of nervousness, not because I thought I was going to mess up but because, for the first time ever a president of African American descent was on the ballot with a legitimate chance to win.

It was an almost surreal moment for me. I was all smiles. I finished before my dad and waited for him in the car. When he saw me he asked why I was acting all happy, i simply said 4 words in response:

I JUST MADE HISTORY!

P.S. - Some lady thought she could register at the polling place. After about an hour of standing in line one of the polling officials told her that she couldn't vote because she didn't register ahead of time. She got all mad and walked out. lol. Thanks for the effort but...come on now.

I Never Heard The Bullet

Straight jacked from their Myspace page

I used to know a kid named Motaz back in my Oregon days and in someways I still "know" him by way of the great site that is Facebook.

Anyway, he has this band that is going around the Oregon/Washington circuits and making some noise at the same time. I finally gave his band/him a listen, and they can only be described by two words: Simply. Dope.

I'm not one to venture too far into the realm of rock music, but damn, if I hear good music, its exactly that, Good Music. At first glance they might sound like any other up and coming up band but, when you listen to their music you quickly realize that they are poised to be your favorite band's favorite band pretty soon.

The Members:
Motaz (piano/vocals)
Kaycee (Drums)
Tabor (Bass)
Jesse (Guitar)
Dustyn (Guitar)

Something that you realize when you press play is that...dude brings it on the track. Motaz's voice pulls you into the song and keeps you listening to the whole thing. His voice and piano work brings a refreshing splash of R&B to the otherwise straight rock song.

Seeing that I am going off their myspace songs, and that this isn't an official album review but rather an introduction of their music to the AZ market. I'll just drop the link to their page and let you go crazy with their songs and make your own judgment.

I Never Heard The Bullet's Myspace page
Motaz's Myspace page

Thank me later.

Blah Blah Blah

Ahh, feels good to be back. I hadn't posted in a while and I'm sorry, I didnt mean to just ignore you guys like that.

I know how much you depend on me to get through your day.

Anyways, the ast week of school was hexie hard and I should be able to put up my Random Thoughts more often. Like today. Just for you. Free of charge.

andddd, lets take a moment of silence please. The AZ Cardinals just scored a TD to take a 14 pt lead in the third quarter...ON THE ROAD. WOOO!

I'm calling it right now. AZ cardinals vs. Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game. Was that prediction bias. Yes, Yes it was.

....so i really dont know what else to talk about, cus frankly I'm speechless. I went to go get some pancakes...and the panthers just tied the game in 51 seconds. WTF?

Never again am i gonna leave the spot on the couch in front of man's gift to himself, aka the Television, during a cardinals game again.

Unless Im gonna go get pancakes....like right now. Peace out!!!!

Ode to Mark Wahlberg

I'm not even gonna write anything. I'm just gonna let his Wikipedia page do the talking.

But I have cut some paragraphs, read them...now:

On his persona early on in his career:

Mark's cocky, street-wise persona contributed to his fame. During concert performances, he was known for stripping to a pair of white briefs, gyrating his hips and rubbing his crotch.[12] In the dedication of his 1992 book Marky Mark, co-authored with photographer Lynn Goldsmith, Wahlberg says in the preface that "I wanna dedicate this book to my cock"
Brokeback Mountain:
Wahlberg was also considered for a role in the film Brokeback Mountain. It was originally intended to star him and Joaquin Phoenix, but Wahlberg was uncomfortable with the film's sex scenes and his role ultimately went to Jake Gyllenhaal.
His video game
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch had their own video game in the Marky Mark: Make My Video game series on the Sega Mega-CD. Using various effects, the player is supposed to produce new versions of the videos to Marky Mark songs like "Good Vibrations" and "I Need Money". PC World.ca listed it as the eighth worst video game of all time.
How did this guy go from a John Cena look-a-like rapper to one of the best actors in hollywood? haha. It seriously amazes me. Just watch the video below, his 1991 number 1 dance hit, Good Vibrations:

Oh wow.

And just for kicks, I posted the SNL skit "Mark Wahlberg talks to animals."

It's pretty funny, I thought, but apparently Marky didn't. being quoted as saying the following:
"Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure. And "Saturday Night Live" hasn't been funny for a long time. They've asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don't even know who's on the show now."
- The Superficial

haha...what a character. no pun intended. lol

Dear God,

Help Common in his new relationship because I don't know if he knows what to do with that. Lol.

View his new girl...
View Him....

Speechless? Yes. May we all offer our advice to our brother and help him through this glorious ridiculous situation.

Sincerely,
Biggest Common Fan.

p.s. what would their children look like? Gorillas? Grizzley Bears? Is that even possible?...I mean come on, look at them...it has to be. lol

The Unauthorized Biography of Bob Marley (U.B.B.M)

Man, I peeped this at some of my favorite blogs and just cant get enough of how DOPE it is.

Shaun Boothe really went to town on the Nas beat (read: Unauthorized Biography of Rakim). And the story he tells is nothing less than ON POINT.

I'll stop talking and let yall watch it. Enjoy!

And to think...this is the 2nd of 12 songs/videos he is putting out! The first one was about the Late...the Great James Brown.

I think I'm more hyped about the next 10 vids than all those homeless/poverty-stricken kids hearing news that Angelina Jolie wants to adopt another kid soon.

Lol, jk. I know I am.

Oh No He Didn't......Yes He Did!

Seeing that I missed the final presidential debate this past wednesday, I ended up watching the entire thing on quite possibly the greatest website ever created.

Youtube.

While watching it though, I couldn't help but notice the following point of the debate:

Question - Was this the turning point of the debate.
Answer - Yes

I think after that moment of shear bewilderment on McCain's part showed that his highly agressive and (what seems like) pre-planned attacks, have backfired. Badly.

His facial expression just screams "oh dear god, he got me."

and so I, Shadow, will humbly say this on behalf of Barack Obama directed towards the McCain/Palin camp:

GOT 'EM!

Monday, October 13, 2008

We going to the 'ship, WHAT!

Ok.....so this was supposed to be posted earlier using my phone....but of course i had to press a button that deleted everything. I guess it was God telling me not to be stealing company time (read: the office episode last week season 5, episode 2)

It was a good weekend in football this past weekend. The Pats officially suck now, Atlanta is defying the odds and are 4-2, and the only clear cut power house is the Giants. And as I write this, they are having a tough time with the lowly browns. Gotta love parity!

My eagles came by HUGE for me. Dropping 40 pts on the 49ers...and that last Def. Td gave me the win in one of my fantasy leagues.....WOOOO!

The Cardinals also won in OT taking me back to the '98 Cardinal's playoff race. Damn, those were the days. Hopefully we can keep it going.

*I said that at the beginning of the year...but i just made if official*

We (The AZ Cardinals) are going to represent the NFC in the SUPERBOWL!! BAM!

And to all who disagree.....2 words.

HI HATER

Just Another Lol Moment

oh god.

I really think this is fake.......but can completely believe it if you told me it's real.

Reminds me of that South Park WOW episode. haha, classic.

Electoral Sentiment

So as I was getting ready to go to bed, I was informed of a heated discussion that was taking place on the myspace message boards regarding this year's presidential candidates. Seeing that I don't have a profile anymore on myspace, I asked if the bulletin postings could be emailed to me, just for my own entertainment. What I read was something that was completely uncalled for, it went as follows:

"OBAMA= great speaker
HITLER= great speaker

both said what they needed to say to get where they wanted to get and then we found out all the lies hitler told, hopefully we dont make the same dumbass mistake those people did.."

Ok, now take a moment and take in the gravity of the statement.

Democratic Presidential Nominee Senator Barack Obama(IL) being compared to one of, if not THE, worst leaders in the history of the world.

soley on the basis that they can both speak well. Excuse me? If you are reading this and are simply appalled by the statement, then you're not alone. By reading the statement one can only assume that the writer is trying to say the following things

First
- if you are a great speaker, and want to be a world leader, then you are like Hitler

I can speak pretty well, and so could Ronald Reagan......

Second - any politician who says "what they needed to say to get where they wanted to get" is a second coming of Hitler.

lol, in that case, leaders the globe over are Hitler 2.0's

Now hopefully this was just someone's idea of a joke. A sick one. But a joke nonetheless.

As already known I am an Obama supporter, and while I do not agree with everything he states, I do believe that his proposals are better for this country than those of Senator McCain (R-AZ).

This entire thread brings light to something that turns me off from political debate completely: People making wild/crazy/often offensive statements about one candidate or the other. Like I stated it could be a joke, which I highly doubt, or, more likely, people talking about issues that they are either vaguely familiar with or not at all. And this is what scares me about the outcome of this election. Too many people are going to go to the polls on the day in November and cast their vote for a candidate based on emotion/race/what the news stations said/who their friends(family) are voting for. That, that uneducated, borderline ignorant mindset is what is going to determine this election. At least in my opinion....which is the purpose of my blog

Thomas Jefferson's dream of a completely enlightened electorate is not close to being achieved if certain portions of that electorate still are thinking like this.

In closing, if your vote is going to be influenced by what I mentioned earlier....then you should not vote. If you're not smart enough to go out and do your own research and/or watch the many speeches and debates to form your opinion, your right to vote should be revoked.

Ok maybe not that far, but serioulsy people, this kind of slander isn't necessary and puts a serious dent in your intelligence level in the eyes of others. Simply put, that was dumb.

If I was to ask you what the economic/foreign policy of either candidate is in your own words...would you be able to answer? Exactly.

Good Night.

Love Lockdown (Official Video)

During the VMA's this year we all patiently waited for Kayne's new song from his then (and now i guess lol) upcoming album 808s and Heartbreaks.

Then after all the remix's and and freestyles and what have you (all of which were dopeeee!!!)...I now present you the Official video for Kanye's Love Lockdown. YEA BOY!!

now that we've all obsessed over this song...I leave this message to Kanye: Bring on Heartless (newest single)....matter fact, bring on the whole album! Nov. 25th seems soooo far away lol.

Just another LOL Moment

So I was on Facebook the other day, just peruzing the internets like I do sometimes while taking a break from reading...and read this kids status....then read the comment.

(click the picture to enlarge)

I couldnt stop cracking up! haha, I couldnt believe that someone said this.

the people being friends to begin with was funny as hell too me too

Everytime I look at it, it makes me laugh hahaha. Enjoy.

Addicted!

I Stack Chips....call me Pringles.

haha, so recently I started started to buy and sell (excuse me, i should say trade) stocks. And that ish is HARDD lol. I doesnt help though that the economy is going down faster than........I'll leave it to your imagination lol

It's pretty addicting though....matter of fact, thats what i did at work allllll day. Just pretended to do work while I had Yahoo Finance up watching all my stocks go red and the DOW going down 800 points. To say the least....I was sad haha.

But, it was just one day...and lets all pray we get better if not for the country....but my portfolio lol.

And speaking of addictions......I confessed earlier to fellow blogger YonZaDon.....I am officially addicted to texting. I dont know what it is....maybe its the thought that someone out there is waiting for what I have to say.

or maybe its the feel of the keys on my fingertips, as they pound away on them.
or maybe its the sound of the keys getting tapped, almost like the sound of popcorn poppin in the microwave
or maybe its the fact I have unlimited and try to see if there is some hidden limit haha. ok probably not this one, but that'd be crazy right?

idk about yall but send/recieved i had 6700 last month.....i was like wtffff!! when i saw that on the bill. But at the same time, i was all proud and felt like I accomplished something with my life haha. Ive kinda set that as my next goal...the month I break that...whooooooo! That would be dopeeeee.

Oh god...this isn't gonna help my addiction, its like a sickness....I'm like a texting nymphomaniac

*texting pause, will be back*

Im sure people have gotten higher than that...but i dont care, this is like a game to me now. It's ON!

You never thought that hip hop would take it this far

For how wack some tribute preformances were....this is still a great show in my opinion.

Im talking about the VH1 Hip Hop Honors Awards Show of course. I like watching it to see all the old school cats that nobody ever talks about anymore, but I (and many other wannabe old heads like me) still bump in my good old xB. This year's nominee's included Too $hort, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty by Nature, Slick Rick, and a tribute to Issac Hayes. Overall it was a good show, except they could have done without the coonery of Flava Flav....in a perfect world Sammy, in a perfect world.

*side note: Paper Trails by T.I. is the year's best album so far*

**side note 2: albums still to come in 2008 Kanye's 808 and Heartbreaks, Common's Invincible and Jay-Z's Blueprint 3. Atleast Paper Trails still has some time to get some sales lol**

I think I got all of the emo out of me...haha.

Punchcard Promises - My plea for you to vote

Before you do anything....please watch the below video I found over at Yon's blog.

Ok, first of all, big ups to the celebs that came out and used their power of image to support such an important topic. Really, I commend them, they could have just easily not.

Second, this isnt a plug for/shot at any party. They spit the truth from recent events and as a means of motivation for yall

I have a lot of friends out there who aren't gonna be voting this election. It baffles me as to why not. They are giving up an opportunity to make their voice heard in regards to the highest office of this country and, in some respects, the most influential position in the world. Quite frankly, there really is no reason not to vote. I mean, It's not like you can vote for the president everyday. This is a right that had been denied to many and restricted to many more. After all of the effort put in to allow suffrage for all, to not vote would be, in effect, a slap to this countries history and everyone that worked to make this right available to everyone.

Personally I'm Excited as hell to vote in my first presidential election. and honesltly, yall should be too...whether its your first (like myself) or your 5th. Whether you rep the donkey or the elephant or.....whatever the independant party is. Go out in November and place your vote for who you think should be the next leader of this country.

You have until the 6th of october to register. So hurry!

You really have no right to complain if your candidate didnt get picked if you didnt even put your say into the debate to begin with. Just saying.

Gone!

You've gotta be kidding me.

first of all no homo.

enjoy.

LMAO to how he said it fits the mouth perfect *demonstrates with his mouth*....LOL

Time is...

..........what i need.

It seems like life is just one huge puzzle and How one uses their time, whether it be years, months, days, hours, mins, etc., throughout their life determines the events that occur/the outcomes of their own decisions.

At times I'll sit and think about what I've done in my life (or should I say haven't done) and wonder if the time that I've had on this world (approx 10,540,800 mins when I typed that).

Am I going to fast, am I not going quick enough. It's almost like I'm afraid for opportunity to pass that I try and take everyone that comes my way. It's a good thing and a curse at the same time.

I guess I'm (we're) just gonna have to see things out and hope the best comes out of it. Sometimes though it would be nice to just freeze time and do what you gotta do. But unfortunately, the more stuff that piles on, the more time just keeps slippin slippin....into the futureeeee!

Goodnight.

Something I've Been Meaning To Say

Yesterday while taking a break from some rare studying i was rummaging through some old stuff piled up on shelf on my head board. Came to realize it was stuff from my High School senior prom, an issue of the newspaper where I was quoted (lol) and the program for my graduation. It was all cool and nostalgic till I found something else.

I found my best friend/cousin/(insert anything good)'s program for his graduation.

I didnt say it on here but Abdulrahman Abdulrahman passed away on the complete opposite coast than the one we represent. At that time, I couldnt get myself to write/talk/or anything about the situation. It was the greatest shock to me...and what made it equally hard was that it was the first person so close to me to pass away. You dont really know what people are talking about when they say "I've never felt like that before" until something happens in your life that brings those emotions out of the depths of your soul.

Now, even today I would like to think that I have come to grips to the events almost 2 months later but not a day goes by where I don't either get teary eyed or, on occasion, cry. It's crazy how much the littlest things can remind you of someone, you dont know what's there till it's gone. Ain't that the truth. For a while I had almost forgot that this was a huge loss for me and worried about how his family was doing. The fact that it also affected me was when someone came to me and told me that they were sorry that I had lost a friend. scratch that....i had lost a piece of me.

A couple good things did come out of this though, it brought my family closer than its been in a while seeing that Abdul was either a son/grandchild/brother/friend to each one of us. Another thing was that life all of a sudden became something to be cherished at a higher level. It's something I was aware of but the realness of it didn't hit me until that day in late July.

To this day a part of me doesn't want to believe that my boy's gone....but my mind knows better than that and suppresses any emotion that arises from me. And if anyone knows me, I dont really show my emotions too much and I think suppressing this has just made it worse. It's almost like I want to deal with this by myself....there's only one person that I've talked to that has helped. Everyone else has just given the cliche responses. which aren't bad but you can only get so many of those.

I dont know what to do anymore about it. I almost feel like I never completely let out my sadness on that day when I heard the news. I held back so much so as to be a role model for my little brothers and sisters. And now it slowly rears its head on an almost daily basis. The moments last for like a minute or 2, but then ruin the rest of the day to a certain extent.

I could write about this forever, but every word I type out and reread is like a little needle pricking a bag of tears that is just waiting to explode.

All this just from finding his Graduation day Program.

Since then, I've done a couple things that we had planned on doing in the future. Trip to San Diego...check. Go to a Common concert....check. deleting our myspaces.....check (lol).

God works in such mysterious ways sometimes, but in the end all of our times is coming up and that is what helps me from completely breaking down. Abdul's just came a little to early.....just a little to early.

I haven't written all my thoughts but this it's a start. It feels a little better knowing you wrote it down and someone out there could relate. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Unfortunately

R.I.P homie

Let's Have a Serious Conversation

An article was published on my birthday (aka the 14th of September) by anti-racism writer/speaker Tim Wise. The article is below in it's entirety for everyone to read. The subject of the piece is pretty obvious by reading the title of this post and of the article. I've gone ahead and put down my thoughts after the article.

This is Your Nation on White Privilege

This is Your Nation on White Privilege

By Tim Wise

For those who still can’t grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you'll “kick their fuckin' ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action.

White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you’re “untested.”

White privilege is being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office--since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s--while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals.

White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you.

White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was “Alaska first,” and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.

White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do--like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor--and people think you’re being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college--you’re somehow being mean, or even sexist.

White privilege is being able to convince white women who don’t even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a “second look.”

White privilege is being able to fire people who didn’t support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt.

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

White privilege is not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a “trick question,” while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O’Reilly means you’re dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced.

White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it a “light” burden.

And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain…

White privilege is, in short, the problem.

The original article can be found here.

Now.....MY opinion.

Let's go from the top-down. This article is obviously about the media's presentation of different issues dealing with the (vice)presidential candidates of each party. More specifically Mr. Obama and Mrs. Palin. Now if your reading this, don't come to some dumb conclusion that I am assuming everyone of the Caucasian race is evil and all minorities are the greatest thing ever. Just hear me out. Let your mind wander a little.

Propaganda is handed to us on a silver plate on a daily (almost hourly) basis through the main news organizations no matter what side of the political spectrum you lean towards. The media has such a big influence on the people of this country its ridiculous. If you watched a report on the War in Iraq on any news station in the US....and compared it to a report on the Arab station Al-Jazeera, you would see two completely different views on the same topic. Now, with the censorship that is prevalent in this country's news media, one can see why the raw images of war weren't available to us. Simply, the fear that would ensue by witnessing the mess that was created over there would be too great for the government to control. Or take the coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the people of New Orleans struggling to survive. The "looting" problem was completely overblown. Because of the fact that it was "stealing" or because of their higher melanin count. Never mind the fact that the "help" that was supposed to come....didn't, and they needed some kind of sustenance to survive to see the next day. But I digress, the point I am making is that the media can portray things in such a way that you would not even notice it shaping your own opinion on that specific subject.

Take the teen pregnancy of Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin's daughter. Knowing the history of this country, as far as race and stereotypes go, Mr. Wise hit it right on the dot when he compared it to the "what if" situation - what if it was Obama's 17 year old daughter (i know he doesn't have one....). Would it still be an issue of Pro-life vs. Pro-Choice like it is now? Would it still be a simple family matter that shouldn't be talked about? Or would it conveniently become an issue of, as Wise said, minorities being "irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay." You make the call.

In the article above, Wise goes on to mention other instances (which I wont repeat since you already read them above) that make you think. Think something like "oh come on now, he's going to far" or "this guy reads too far into stuff" as I thought. But then I realized something that made me think about the whole idea of white privilege in a new light. I've grown up in a time where racism and issues dealing with race have slowly gone from being clearly overt to being institutionalized in everyday aspects of life. In spite of this, we (we being the country) have made giant strides in this area, but simultaneously, it has gotten harder to fix things deep rooted in our social mores. Taking the above article, you can ask yourself if it is striding the line of subtle racism or if it is simply on the side of white privilege. In either case there is still work too do in regards to equal playing fields for all.

This post has gotten to long and, frankly, I don't want to write anymore lol. I want anyone who reads this to take it academically and not emotionally. By doing that, it will stay an...enlightened...conversation if you will and not a argument that only god knows will end up.

Anyways, Thanks for reading, and leave your thoughts in the form of comments. now, lol.

Best of the Year?

2008 VMA's...?

My thoughts on this year's VMA's..as i think of them...just Sammy's Unadulterated Thoughts.

Russel Brand....go back to Britain....please. You killed the mood

Rhianna came out and did her thing with her somewhat ugly make up....but she's still beautiful

Let me say that again. Russel Brand is wack. It's the first time i've heard of his ass and his lil political speech is still bothering me

Lil Wayne (wearing what looked to be like pants a 12 yr. old girl would wear) came out and did "A Millie", that one song where he used that Nina Simone "Misunderstood" sample (P.S. Common's version was WAY better) and that T-Wayne joint. I'm gonna get my hater on and just say it was It was ok i guess. lol

Quick Thought - why does T-Payne wear those big ass hats?

Ciara was lookin really....um....not hot.....i was confused, didn't really know what was going on.

After a little wikipedia search...I found out who this Russel Brand guy is....heroin/sex addict and alcoholic...former heroin/sex addict and alcoholic I should say. Im reading this article too about how MTV brought him in to give the VMA's a edgy/more volatile M.C. WOWOWOW, nobody knows who this guy is and they are just gonna be real confused. Stupid decision on thier part, no one is gonna get why he is there.
Some rock stuff is coming on....and I listen cus the Colts/Bears game is at halftime haha.

Oh Em Ge. Pink?? Where's she been all these...years? Am I right or am I completely out of touch with Pop Culture?

haha...LOL to SlipKnot and Fogal from Super Bad introducing the best Hip Hop Video. What a weird combo....and Fogal just announced Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" won best video. Over Lupe. I dont know what to say. And why Teddy Pendergrass (T-Pain) walk up with Weezy? They are taking that T-Wayne thing a lil too far.

Isn't T.I. about to go to jail? And he's performing on National T.V. haha, you gotta love this country! His performance with Rhianna tho was on point. No lying there, It was dope, She was dope! haha.

Just saw a commercial for Sears. Starring LL Cool J. Promoting his clothing line there? Then again Sears was the place to go 30 years ago...you know...when LL was on top of his game. haha.

Vanessa Hudgens just walked out....I forgot what i was gonna say. Oh god.

Christina Aguilera doesn't even have to try anymore, she definitely won the Christina/Britney competition.....like 5 years ago. Her performance right now is just showing off. Come one C.A. go easy on Spears. We all know your the best! lol. **Note, why do girls continuously put on that dark eyeliner all thick. It looks soooo gross**

LOOOL, Brand just is making a fool of himself, wow, R.Kelly is gonna beat his ass soon, you heard it here first. I can just see it on thesuperfical.com

WHO THE F^*& IS TOKYO HOTEL???? Damn, that's like the 10th time I've heard their name in the past hour. And wtf? is the lead singer(?) a guy? It can't be. It is? oh man....he (it) looked like a Japanese geisha girl....

*is wondering how one gets his hands on an application to be Paris Hilton's BFF*

Oh, did I just think that out loud? Actually who cares...SIGN ME UP!!!!!

Thinks its hilarious that Britney is back. Did she not just shave her head and what not like 2 months ago? Its incredible what a top notch PR firm can do for you.

Ahh..there's my man Lupe. Rockin that Romanelli jacket that I could never afford and yet still want.....one day. Oh and tell my why these little side performances with Travis Barker on the drums and Kanye's DJ A-Track way better than the main ones? It really doesn't make sense.

What's this? Kid Rock performing with Lil Wayne?? and my ears aren't bleeding? haha, It's kinda tight actually. Mr. Carter should stick to this type of rock than do what he tried to do earlier in the year.

Toby...I mean Kobe...is presenting video of the year....all the nominees are people I dont care about.

and Britney wins....what a surprise? none at all. And its finally time for what I was waiting for.

Kanye West's new song from his supposed upcoming album. NEW SINGLE, G.O.O.D. Music is in the HOUSE. The song's called "Love Lockdown". Yea thats right, I knew that already. lol.

Analysis of this song = It was ok, lol. I just wanna hear the new record.

And I didn't mention it before but every single performance was described by Russell Brand as "magnificent".....and he seemed to have an affinity for Lil Wayne, which was kinda weird.

And he JUST called Britney Spears the "female Christ"......sure buddy.

Anyway the show was a complete waste of my time and has reaffirmed why I never watch award shows. My boy over at Just my Bookbag and Laptop just shot me a text that reads:

"...fuckin mainstream bourgeoisie culture I hate tat those folks make a lot of money to dick ride rich folks"
Took the words right out of my mouth my friend. And with that...Peace!!!

One Year Anniversary

Webster's Dictionary describes a trendsetter as simply:

one that sets a trend

And that, my friends, is exactly what I am. It feels pretty good knowing that others have followed your in your footsteps, chosen the trail you've blazed, drank from the same cup....anything else that is a metaphor for people following you.

Now, what is this thing that I've introduced into the world of "cool things" you ask?

Answer: Blogging!

Haha, One year ago today (well more like a couple days ago) I started this blog. I started "Thoughts of a Random African (American)" as an experiment. Just to see what it would be like to have your own blog. Your own piece of the Internet where people you know/random people could all come and read what you are thinking, laugh at funny things, listen to some dope music, or just simply to learn something they didn't know. Ever since I got one though, my closest friends have all started one.

All their links can be found on the right side of the screen.

But in all seriousness, I'm happy I started this. I didn't really expect it to be a huge hit because well, I don't really put ALL my time into this as do other more successful sites, as can be seen in my erratic posting practices. But for what I have accomplished, I am pretty proud lol. I would never have thought that I would still be (somewhat) maintaining this site 1 year later.

If it wasn't for the people that told me that what I was doing was good/funny/worth taking the time to read, I would have probably quit a LONG time ago. But for those people who have supported me I want to say one thing:

Thank You

And for those of you who followed my ways and started one. A big thanks to you too, because by influencing yall to make one, it kinda created a lil community of us.

Our Digital Neighborhood.

Whether you maintained it or not though is up to you but you simply making one is a compliment.

O.K. Now that all the thanks/big-headed-ness is out of the way. Back to the work!

What's Up

I seriously think that this year Im gonna meet the most people I've ever met at ASU/Life. I dont know what it is, something about knowing you are about to graduate soon has this affect on me that's making me open up a lil more socially. If anyone knows me, I really have to be comfortable with you to act myself. For as long as I've tried to "open up" it always ends up like that. But this year is weird, in a good way though lol.

So anyways, if yall wanna be on that "people Sammy met this year" list....Let me break the ice.

Yo, the name's Sammy.

(what you say) "oh my name's _____"

Sleep is the cousin of....Getting a F

AHHH, man I'm taking this Supply Chain Management class over here at ASU (SCM432 for those that rep the maroon and gold!) and so far it seems like it's gonna be a lot of work but cool at the same time. Wierd. I know.

Were doing this simulaion right now where my group (aptly named Sammy's Group lol) is supposed to run a factory online for about 138 days. *1 game day = 1 human hour* And this thing runs 24 hours a day (human time).....yea, its gonna suck.

So its been like 5 (game)days and what seemed like a wack ass game has slowly started to become an obsession. ESPECIALLY since you can see what other teams's Cash Balances are. Im trying to get that Numba 1 SPOT Son!!!!

anyways, I can feel it slowly taking control of me kinda like what myspace first did to me, than facebook. Complete Domination of all my attention! I keep finding myself going back to it and trying to find something I can tweak to put us ahead.loool, im such a nerd.

Damn you LittleField Technologies. Damn YOUUUUUUU!!!!!

But i guess i can get some good out of this, it shows me that I've found what I really want to do when I graduate. Supply Chain Management is the way to go everyone....just thank me later.

Now back to whether I should increase our order quanitity or whether I should sell a couple machines off....maybe buy? ahhhhh!

Ramadan Kareem

I cant believe it's been a year already since last Ramadan, but alas, it has come. The Islamic Holy Month is where Muslims abstain (fast) from food and drink from sun-up to sun-down. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility.

Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer more prayer than usual. Asking forgiveness for the sins of the past, asking for guidance in the future, asking for help with refraining from every day evils, and trying to purify oneself through self-restraint and good deeds are other actions that are done more frequently.

That was the little summary from wikipedia (best site ever, besides mine)

Anyway, today is the first day and it went amazingly well. It was hecka hard to get up to eat for suhur (the time before sun-up when we can eat) this morning but the fact that I had no school or work...or anything for that matter made it real easy. It seemed as though god was really testing us at our house though cus our air condition wasn't working and thirst was a feeling that we all held at a more than normal level lol. But just gotta go through it.

Even if you aren't of the Islamic faith, I ask all of you to try it, becuase I know that you will gain a new respect for this month.

Ok...time to go pray, talk to you all later. Inshallah (God willing) this month bodes well for EVERYONE!

Yesterday Was NOT A Good Day

ok so yesterday suckkkkeeeddddd!

fisrt of all, it was my first time ever doing a 9am-9pm at school. Yea I know, I know, I knew what I was getting into when I signed up for it but DAMN! It's so exhausting when you actually do it.

That was the first thing, THEN while i was updating the Jayz post I had a couple days ago and I accidently deleted! No way could I explain to you what I was doing but I for some reason while I was deleting some old drafts I had, I clicked that Jay post too and BAM it was gone...AHHHHHHHHH.

THEN after I got home at around 9:30 (by this time I also bought a book for class too worth about $100). As soon as I get home, the FREAKIN POWER GOES OUT! THe first time i fire up the 360 in a week or so and as I was in the middle of a game of Madden 09....it goes dark.

And to top it off, the bangin headhache I had + the darkness + dead laptop with no way to charge = fell asleep mad early!......well I guess thats not a bad thing lol.

Annnnyyywaaaayyyysssss.......today seems like its gonna be a way better day. Hopefully. Knock on wood, His...lol jk.

WIth Downloading of music (lol hey!) being so prevalant nowadays getting your hands on a couple songs from Artist X's newest cd that has yet to be released isn't hard at all. Just pay a visit to your favorite neighborhood blogsite (shoutout to 2Dopeboyz!!!)

And so while I visit my most fav site other than mine (and facebook) I noticied that the latest victim to the complete distribution of their albums in the form of individual MP3's is none other LA's own - The Game

LAX has slowly made its way into my Itunes by way of daily downloads. And while I was looking forward to his album being really good....what am i talking about, its the game...he's always tight! haha, at least on occasion.

Anyway, Im not gonna put up all the songs that have been released, here's one of the cuts just to tease you. Of course from Dem 2 Boyz

Superman

SICKKKKKK!!!!

click the song name to DL it. PEACE!

Random African's Official Presidential Endorsement goes to....

I really cant stop thinking about November. The first of many ballots cast by me will take place in that month. For the past couple years I've tried to pay as much attention as possible to our presidential, as well as local, elections. And with my furthered interest into the subject, I get more and more excited with the prospect of my finally being able to vote for our nations president.

Watching the Democratic National Convention not only was good to watch but it also showed me how much EVERYONE is really wanting the dems to succeed....if not Obama himself. There was some division in the party for a bit at the convention but Mrs. Clinton came out and squashed anything that was brewing completely backing the party's nomination. Even coming up with the "No way, Now How, No McCain" slogan, which seems to have caught everyone's ears lol. What really pushed me over to him was his appearance at my school...none other than Arizona State University. The way he addressed each topic, logically, smoothly and eloquently coupled with the way he handled a hecler wanting to know his stance on illegal immigration. This, as well as the speech dealing with race in America. It was given at a very crucial time and forever killed the subject, or atleast made it an issue that was no longer as important as first thought. By bring it into the light, he made everyone deal with it right then and there. His delivery was so flawless that the news media had to dissect every single word of his to find flaws (which is of course expected nowadays).

Anyway ima keep this one short and just remind everyone, no matter what anyone tells me about how miniscule my vote is in the grand scheme of things, it's still an my duty as a citizen of this country and I would much rather have voted then to wish I had. Feel me? lol. Peace out and may the best Obama Win!

"Was that your foot?"

I dont know why no one ever thought of doing this before but....when the ref is messin you up

Just kick him in the head!

After the ref stopped the match in favor of the Cuban Angel Matos' opponent, Matos explodes and shows why he is in the Olympics in the heavyweight Taekwondo event. What this picture doesn't show is that he kicked the shit out of another referee after this guy.

And apparently this guy is Swedish......either he's really an asian living in the land of Swedes, or that kick really jacked up his face lol.

Now the federation that controls this sport....what ever acronym they use....is trying to pass a motion to ban this baaaddddd mutha for LIFE!

Can you believe this, the one time this sport gets any play in the media, and the guy is about to get banned from it. These guys need to go back and to school and cop a Marketing degree from Arizona State (woot woot!). They dont know a good thing when it kicks them in the face.

Pun intended.

lol

It's Here.

I arrived at like 10 till midnight....I waited in line....saw shirts being passed out to the first couple people...a sense of jealousy creeped in me for a second but then i remembered what I was really there for....then midnight came and a second line formed to make checkout easier....and then the moment I've been waiting for arrived, the man asked me "which one?"

I paused.

Then replied "xbox"

then he goes "regular or collectors"

and with a big smile, I reply....."collectors"

OH YEA!

Now I haven't opened it yet and probably wont till way later today. I wish I could take the day off but that's a luxury an intern like myself is not afforded. AHHHH!!!

I cant wait to play it!!! Madden 09, Head Coach 09, and a revamped version of Madden 93!! Who could pass that up?

This is the story of a.....

....CHAMPION

Mr. West comes back with yet another music video for a song from his Graduation cut. This is one of my favorite songs on the cd so you better love it damn it!

He pretty much cousin skeetered himself for this video....the concept is soooo sick!
