Another Notch on the Belt

The last one is the most recent one. And man the flyer only said that Q-Tip and the Cool Kids were gonna be there. So you have to believe me when I say I was thourghly surprised once the ever dope "ima f.a.t. boy, ima f.a.t. boy" hook started and the beat dropped and BAM! Out came Pacific Division. The crowd didn't know who they were and same goes for The Knux too. But they both came out and laid it down, amid little crowd involvement and REALLY Terrible sound. (smh at Marquee Theater)........on a side note, Big ups to 2dopeboyz for putting me on (i puttttt onnnnn) to Pac Div and The Knux.

Then the Cool Kids came out and did their thing. Although the mostly High School aged kids enjoyed this part of the show the most, it was only "cool" for me. Till they did the Black Mags song which is hella old but they were joined by the previous 2 groups on stage. So it made it dope.

When Q-Tip finally came on stage......he had a surprise guest with him (well, it was a surprise to me lol)...DJ Scratch! lol, damn that guy can DJ. His little 15 minute solo he had was niceeeeee!

But anyways....Q gets up there, realizes that the sound quality is horrendous (smh again) and stops his set for like 15 minutes until they finally got everything right. Which I'm happy he did cus it made his show even better. It was reaaaaal cool seeing a legend in the game still get hyped and going crazy on stage, he fed of the crowd (now mixed, old and young) and reciprocally we fed off of him. He even came down off the stage and started to interact with the fans by having someone finish a line mid song.

Case in point - During the song Check The Rhime he said:

[Q doing Ps part] And me the five footer

And then put the mic in front of my face to finish it out with "I gots the mad styles so step off the Frankfooter"....but no. What did I do. I froze, completely blanked. Thank God it wasnt just directed at me, but the mic right there in my face made it seem like it was just me and Q *no homo* lol. To say the least I was embarressed and I know Q was disappointed, cus I was singing along with him the whole time! aaaahhhhhh, I'm sorry Q....Forgive me?

Ya'll already know though that when he asked to see all the bloggers hands go up....I made myself known. iRep TofaAA.

The show was real dope over all specially with 2K Sports giving away free shirts and what not (btw, smashed some kid in 2k9 with Kobe B and the Lake Show), we sat stood dead center in the front row....wouldn't want it anywhere else. Jk, that's a lie. I would love to be able to take a camera in there and snap away/record video for you guys....but alas, I do not yet have the credentials of a HipHopBlogger yet. In due time....In due time indeed.

As for concerts though....I think Im gonna take a little break for now, only really worth show coming up is the Wu-Tang one. And as dope as they were when I saw them earlier this year.....not really sure if I wanna see them again anytime soon lol *Jando knows what I mean*

It went from Nigger....To Nasir....Now its called Untitled.

Whatever the hell he calls it, its gonna be real nice. Atleast based off the singles he's put out. His last album....matter of fact.....almost all of his albums AFTER Illmatic were somewhat underwhelming.

But with that in the past....We are now in 2008 waiting for this latest one to come out. With all the hype surrounding it. I mean, the name contreversy that he created with the first planned name brought so much attention to him that he better live up to it. So far it sounds like its gonna be but, the clothing that Kelis and he wore at the Grammy's this year pretty much solidified the fact that if this CD sucks, he will be forever remembered as stupid and whatever goes with naming your cd N I Double G E R. But, if this cd is really good....then he will be called a genius.

I feel blessed

So today I got home checked my email and realized that I am now a LEGIT blogger haha. My first email from a certain publishing company (MAC Media), headed by none other than writer turned publicist Matt Conaway, regarding music came in.

In Hip Hop I Trust

So over the last month, I have purchased 4 albums. Some of you out there are probably thinking I'm just wasting my money. Some of you out there think that my buying the CD's is the way to go. Whatever you think....I bought them. And you know what? They were seriously worth the money. The ones I bought were:

• Common's Finding Forever
• Talib Kweli's Eardrum
• Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass
• MF Doom's MM Food

The Common CD is by far the best one IMHO. When he put out Be, I thought that he really out did himself on it as far as content and production. Let me be honest with you guys/gals (if there really is anyone reading these), Finding Forever is WAY better. This album is listenable from top to bottom and all the way through.

The first song is an intro, which is basically an instrumental building up. Just like the Intro on Be, it is worth the listen but you can definitely skip it (I know I said you wont need the next button but its just an instrumental.....if you enjoy real music you will like it. If you are a n00b - well then you are a n00b) and go straight to the second song. All but 4 of the tracks are produced by his Chi-Town counterpart Mr. Kanye West. Even a beat by the late J.Dilla (aka Jay Dee) is present on the song featuring D'Angelo called So Far to Go

From songs about real life ideals to romantic common-esque songs to the ones of brute lyricism. Common's Finding Forever delivers and efficiently as well seeing that the album is only 12 songs long (which is a norm now for him). The guest spots on the album are very polished as well, the best one being the appearance of British singer Lily Allen on Driving me Wild. With the use of female artists from across the pond suddenly being the cool thing to do (i.e. Amy Winehouse and Natasha Bedingfield.......aight maybe not so much but still), Miss Allen's feature was on point. Kanye himself shows up on the Chicago Anthem Southside. I don't know if Kanye is saving all of his lyrics for his album but his appearance was actually NICE....when compared to most of his guest work as of late. As you go on, The Game is another gem on the CD only to be later upstaged by Misunderstood...here's a little snippet from it.

"He on the ground he could feel God touching him
He heard the sound of his moms sayin trustin him
At heaven's gate, saying please Lord let me in
Or send me back to tell my people to be better men"

D-D-D-D-DOPE......if I were to rate the CD from 1-10....It would be a nine and only because it is such a short length. ONLY THAT.

Go Cop it please.....seriously best 12-13 bucks you've probably spent in a while. You really don't need that extra World of Warcraft character.....enlighten yourself and listen to this album!
