I dont get it.

So the other day i was online playing poker through one of gazillions of facebook's applications/spam generators, albeit this Texas hold-em one is pretty legit.

While i was in one of these rooms with one of my friends, something happened that was completely ridiculous. And the funny thing was....i thought it was just that one person who did this, but apparently this is a consistent theme all over the internet.

Let me set up the story for you:

In the little chat window, someone lost a lot of their chips with a reallllly wack hand. so i made a little joke about how dumb it was to do that. The losing person, then thought it was appropriate for him to go on a racially laced tirade.........excuse me????

in the span of like 2 minutes a friendly conversation turns incredibly racist. And im not gonna try and sugar coat it, these people were all white.

Now, in this supposed "progressive and modern" society, you would think that conversations like this are as close to being non-existent as possible. But as witnessed by me and my friend, are no where near being a thing of the past.

The funny thing is, that there aren't many people who would say/do anything racial in person or in front of everybody else. BUTTTT, with the cloak of the internet, they'll do anything. Now a while ago I posted a video about "e-thugin'," which was pretty funny. The sad thing is that people do actually that, and since they are in a place where they cant be traced (somewhat) they are free to say whatever they want with no consequence.

Another moment.

I was playing the game RISK online (lol, don't hate, and it was on another great facebook app.) and i was based in Africa and was reaching out into Europe.......some guy, who was then occupying Europe decided to start saying that i was a "nigger spreading aids around the world"................pause.................

wow.

With recent events, its very hard to keep thinking that society has moved past the problems in the civil rights era. But what I have concluded is that, while they are not overtly showed in todays world, they are still there. They are just in the shadows, quietly sneaking up when the perpetrator deems it safe to do so (ie in groups/on the internet). And on occasion showing its ugly self completely, reminding us that its not gone forever and that it'll be back soon.

Its not completely one way (white to black), its everywhere, but I've only experienced this...thus why i speak on it. All this just from a chat room in a online poker room.....its kinda comical, but when I read it, it left me with a "what the hell" type of feeling, the did he/she just say that kind of felling. We are all lulled into this false sense of security and a feeling that "everything is better" then something like what i mentioned comes unexpectedly and you are brought back down to reality with a crash. Your naivety is then realized and you are shocked.

Maybe its cus it just happened to me that I sound a lil resentful, but remember that scene from the movie White Chicks? where they are all in the car and the N-word is said. At first a sense of shock is presented by the group.....but when the point that there are none of "them" around, they all get the green light and say it.

It couldn't have been far from the truth.

As long as "they" aren't in front of you/around you.....its ok. sad.

anyways.....i dont want to dwell on this too much, its too late and my thoughts arent all there, ima be droppin another one going more indepth but.....

Moral of the story, closet racists are EVERYWHERE. Why are they closet? is it cus they are afraid? of the victim? of society's response (Don Imus)? I don't know, but I really don't like it. matter of fact...I HATE IT.

Superman Shaq to the Rescue!!

Well Well Well.....WHAT A WEEK!!!!

Steve Kerr had some balls on this one for his first move!

The Phoenix Suns, yea MY TEAM, have traded away grossly underrated Shawn Marion and the extremely over paid Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat for the, these days, often hobbled Shaquille O'Neal. While this trade looks ridiculous right off the bat, and while it also looks like a knee-jerk reaction to the Lakers aquisition of Pau Gasol. I can assure you (maybe not 100%, more like 65%, maybe??) that it is not either of those.

First off, every team Shaq has been on has either a) went to the finals or b) won the championship. I'd say that by itself is pretty incredible, the fact that, simply speaking, having Shaq on your team guarantees you a spot in the Finals. And in the case of the Heat, the second year he was there.....THEY WON! Ok, I think that point is taken care of.

Secondly, Shaq, being 35, unhealthy as of late, and well....being 35, will not be of any use to the suns in their style of offense.....WRONG. The Phoenix Suns have possible THE best training staff in the NBA. They have made Steve Nash look like he is 26 again.....seriously, hes old, yet still a BEAST. Amare Stoudamire had the worst knee surgery you could possibly give an athlete......and look what he's doing. Also, last time I checked, you didn't need your entire line-up running down the floor for a fast break. No need for him to race with anybody....all Shaq has to do is

1)get the board
2)pass to ball handler
3)either watch magic happen or
3b)slowly jog back down in case the defense is back already

If you can just do that all night. There's no reason why the suns have to change their game. And if they dont get the fast break, slow it down, set it up, and see what he can do. Honestly speaking though, he's not gonna be the first option....or the second, or third. Maybe fourth. But definately fifth. If nothing is open for the shooters, dump it in to him, let him work or pass it out for an open three. It sounds easy when I break it down......and its equally easy in practice too. Trust me, im and NBA player......lol, jk.

The Diesel has also promised that he will not let anyone down....saying he will show up to the trainers everyday to ensure everything is in proper order. And going from the worst team in the Eastern Conference to the current number one seed in the West has given Big Shaq a new lease on his career (i felt like saying life, idk why lol) atleast till the end of his contract.....which brings me to my next point....

Money.

Marion would have been owed nearly 17 million dollars next year and Marcus Banks another 4. Shaq is owed 20 million for the next two years. So actually, they would be saving money in the "now". But in the long run, banks has 2 years left for about about 10 million total and Marion's contract will be done after next year. Thus putting the Suns over 10 million in the long run. BUT WHY SARVER????

you ask.

I respond.

The suns have gone with Nash, Marion, Amare for the past 3 years....only to get their hopes and dreams crushed by a much bigger Spurs team in the Conference Finals of 2005 and by the Mavericks in 2006 and not even make it there in 2007. It was time for a change. That coupled with the fact that the Suns were desperate for a effective big man, after trading away Kurt Thomas, and looking to deal Marion due to his recent grumblings. (which i'd have to say is warranted since he is a BEAST that gets no love outside of PHX)

Did the LA trade have everything to do with this...no. Did it have something to do with it....yes. Amare has always wanted to return to his natural Power Forward position and who better to play along side with than your close friend (Amare's known shaq since he was 13). Nash lobbied hard for Garnett earlier in the year....and ended up with Shaq.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

So with the promise Shaq made to the fans of PHX by pointing to his ring finger during the epic Hornets/Suns game (Feb. 7, 2007), I pray to god this works out just like i said.........cus if not.

I don't want to go there.

And of course, this post wouldnt be complete without a farewell gesture to my main man Shawn "The Matrix" Marion. These years have been fun watching you grow into THE most underrated player to grace the NBA. Your defensive skills and sick ass dunks will be missed. And you were on pace to break A LOT of Suns records. Good luck in S. Florida and hopefully you can contribute to them, cus god knows they need it. And before I go, heres a little Marion highlight reel.............PEACE!!

I almost shed a tear.......versatility at its finest!
